Ingredients You Want to See on the Label

Here is a breakdown of some of the top acne-fighting ingredients that will help you say goodbye to “bacne” for good!

  • Benzoyl Peroxide. You will find that body washes containing this ingredient are available in different strengths.

Lighter formulas contain a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide and some of the stronger ones – like those on our table, contain 10%. This ingredient is capable of killing acne-causing bacteria, which makes it one of the most effective acne-fighting ingredients. Do be careful with it, however, since it can dry out the skin.

If you have severely dry skin or sensitive skin, do not use a wash containing it. Instead, we recommend you opt for one of the natural products on our list or something with bentonite clay.

  • Salicylic Acid. If you have mild back acne, then a wash with salicylic acid would be the next best thing to one that has benzoyl peroxide.

While it isn’t capable of killing the bacteria that cause acne as benzoyl peroxide can, it does prevent your pores from clogging.

Users with oily skin may find that it does the trick, but if you have dry skin, this will most likely dry it out further and might end up creating more acne and skin problems.

  • Tea Tree Oil. If you want to naturally disinfect your pores and dry up blackheads and white heads, try using a product with tea tree oil.

It is naturally anti-fungal and antibacterial, but not all skin types experience the same results after using it. Try a test patch to make sure you don’t have any reaction, and if you don’t notice any results after using it for a prolonged period, then it probably isn’t strong enough for you.

  • Bentonite Clay. Another natural ingredient that can combat mild acne is bentonite clay.

Use it as a mask once a week to help unclog and shrink pores on your back and your face. If you have oily skin on your back, this might be the right match since it acts as an astringent to help cleanse the skin of excess sebum.

Don’t forget that sometimes the best body wash for back acne might be a simple exfoliating wash or one with natural ingredients.

Since you really need to choose a product based on your skin type and the type of acne you have, there isn’t just one magical product that will work for everyone.

Sometimes certain ingredients can cause sensitive skin to break out, so if you find that traditional products aren’t working, try something natural and gentle such as the Acne.org Cleanser or the Sky Organics 100% Pure African Black Soap.

How Do I Apply the Wash to My Back?

Loofahs and scrub brushes don’t always do the trick. They can end up exfoliating the skin when really all you need to do is gently wash the top layer.

On days that you don’t want to exfoliate, and you have a hard time reaching your back area, try using a special applicator like the Hydas Euro Body Creamer.

It is actually designed for applying creams to the body, but we tried it in the shower and loved the results. You just open the head, put some product in, close and then roll it over your body.

It allows you to clean your back without exfoliating, which is great since you want to avoid over exfoliating and removing healthy skin cells!

Top 3 Best Body Wash for Back Acne Reviews

1. Purely Northwest Antifungal Soap

Purely Northwest has a wildly successful foot and body wash containing tea tree oil that gently washes and nourishes the skin as it fights acne-causing bacteria.

They’ve loaded is with skin-friendly oils such as oregano, eucalyptus, rosemary, and peppermint, and it also contains Aloe Vera and Atlantic Sea kelp.

Don’t be in a hurry to apply this to your skin and then rinse it off right away. You will need to let it sit for a minute or two (as stated on the directions), so it can work its magic.

Many find it to be successful for foot-related problems such as athlete’s foot and ringworm, but for those who have used it for back and body acne, the results are equally as impressive.

If you have moderate to severe acne, however, this probably isn’t strong enough. You can check out the next two products to see if they will work!

2. Nubian Heritage African Black Soap

Do you have sensitive skin and back acne? If so, you need to be careful about the products you use, and that is exactly why we included Nubian Heritage’s African Black Soap Body Wash on our list.

In addition to the natural, skin-friendly ingredients such as Shea Butter and tea tree oil, it also contains salicylic acid to help gently unclog pores and wick away excess sebum.

We liked most of what we saw on the label but did notice fragrance in the mix, and this is a known skin irritant. That doesn’t mean it will bother you if you have sensitive skin, but it might. User beware!

While it isn’t a 100% natural product, the formula seems to work for those with sensitive skin and acne. Give it a try! If it doesn’t work, you still have plenty of other options to pick from on our list.

3. Acne.org 16 oz. Cleanser

This is probably the gentlest formula on our list. As a pH-balanced formula, it won’t strip your skin or dry up all of the natural oil.

If you have dry to normal skin with acne patches on your back, try using this wash.

Unlike the previous products, this doesn’t contain any benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid – it is a simple cleanser with gentle ingredients that you should apply with your bare hands.

Acne.org reminds users that the less you irritate your skin by rubbing it, the less acne can form. Because of this, they recommend using your bare hands to apply the product and not a washcloth or loofah.

We have seen some pretty dramatic results with this formula, but remember that the effectiveness does depend on other products that you use.

Acne.org offers a full line of products that combat acne, so check out some of the other products to see what lotions and moisturizers you should use together with their cleanser.
